Best practices in ethics in scientific communication

Plagiarism

The editorial practice for cases of scientific misconduct (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data falsification or fabrication, misuse of references or citations, duplication, authorship disputes, among others) follows the procedures, checklists, and guidelines outlined in the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, the SciELO Guide to Good Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication, and the "Principles of Transparency and Best Practices in Academic Publishing." The Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity & Health implements Turnitin software to plagiarism and self-plagiarism tracking after the article is accepted by the Section Editor, and authors must be aware of the implications outlined in the legal provisions of the Penal Code (Article 184) and the Copyright Law (Article 7, paragraph three of Law No. 9,610, of February 19, 1998 – see Law No. 12,853, of 2013).

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The use of artificial intelligence in the process of preparing articles submitted to the Revista Brasileira de Atividade Física & Saúde is permitted as long as it is aligned with the ethical precepts of scientific research. Thus, artificial intelligence tools and language models cannot be listed as authors, nor be responsible for any excerpts or content of the manuscript. Accepted activities for the use of these tools will include: (i) assistance in manuscript writing when used to paraphrase or enhance the author’s original content; (ii) literature search, provided that the author(s) take responsibility for the selection and critical analysis of the research conducted; and (iii) production of images or graphic elements, which must be explicitly mentioned in the Materials and Methods section of the article with details on how the tool was used.
The use of these tools must be declared in the Submission Form. In all cases, the authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their research articles.
