Impacto de la pandemia covid-19 en la salud mental, la calidad de vida, el nivel de actividad física y los estudiantes universitarios.

Resumen

Introducción: Los jóvenes pueden tener repercusiones negativas en su salud mental, calidad de vida y enfermedades relacionadas con la inactividad física por aislamiento social y miedo a la enfermedad (covid-19). Objetivo: Analizar el impacto de la pandemia Covid-19 en la calidad de vida, nivel de actividad física y salud mental de estudiantes universitarios. Métodos: Jóvenes universitarios (de 16 a 24 años) realizaron una entrevista en línea, considerando posibles cambios en la salud mental, la calidad de vida y el nivel de actividad física considerando el momento antes y durante la pandemia. La estrategia de reclutamiento de los participantes fue del tipo bola de nieve. Resultados: Participaron 1.167 jóvenes (69,2% mujeres), de los cuales 8,8% tenían diagnóstico de Covid-19 confirmado. Hubo un empeoramiento en todas las puntuaciones de calidad de vida, estrés y depresión durante la pandemia en comparación con el período anterior a la pandemia (p <0,001). La pandemia también aumentó la inactividad entre los jóvenes (49% vs 28%, p <0,001). Las alumnas, del área de salud, que tenían su propia casa y que no habían tenido un diagnóstico confirmado de Covid-19, tuvieron un mayor estrés en el período pandémico. Conclusión: La pandemia de covid-19 empeoró los indicadores de salud mental, calidad de vida y nivel de actividad física entre los estudiantes universitarios. Es de destacar que a pesar de no ser un grupo de riesgo para el agravamiento de la enfermedad y consecuente mayor mortalidad, las restricciones relacionadas con la pandemia limitaron o impidieron el movimiento de personas y este aislamiento puede representar cambios importantes en la salud a mediano y largo plazo en este población.
