Mission
The Revista Brasileira de Atividade Física & Saúde (RBAFS) is the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health (SBAFS), an open-access, peer-reviewed, continuous-flow, and multidisciplinary journal. The mission of RBAFS is to disseminate scientific content of a theoretical, empirical, and educational nature to contribute to the advancement of the field of physical activity and health.
STATUTE OF THE REVISTA BRASILEIRA DE ATIVIDADE FÍSICA & SAÚDE (RBAFS)
Scientific Journal of the Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health (SBAFS)
Article 1 – Brief History
The creation of the Revista Brasileira de Atividade Física & Saúde (RBAFS) was an initiative of the Association of Physical Education Teachers of Londrina, conceived by Professors Dartagnan Pinto Guedes and Abdallah Achour Junior, with the latter serving as Editor-in-Chief from the journal's inception until 2007. In 2007, during the sixth edition of the Brazilian Congress on Physical Activity and Health—an event that also marked the official founding of the Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health (SBAFS)—it was proposed that RBAFS become the official publication of the new scientific society. Since then, RBAFS has been managed by SBAFS.
Article 2 – Institutional Affiliation
RBAFS is the official publication of SBAFS and is fully owned by the Society, which is directly responsible for managing and funding the journal.
SBAFS finances RBAFS and oversees all journal operations. All financial management of RBAFS is handled by SBAFS, which is directly responsible for all payments and receipts.
All strategic decisions regarding the journal, such as directions for indexing, hiring, billing, etc., must be endorsed by SBAFS.
Article 3 – Appointment of Editors-in-Chief and Assistants
SBAFS is responsible for appointing the Editor(s)-in-Chief of RBAFS based on their expertise in the field of Physical Activity and Health. SBAFS is also responsible for appointing the Assistant Editors of RBAFS.
Article 4 – Appointment of Section Editors
The Editors-in-Chief are responsible for appointing the Section Editors. The selection of editors should be based on their academic background, as well as the principles of equity, inclusivity, and diversity.
Article 5 – Responsibilities of Different Roles
The Editor(s)-in-Chief are responsible for the entire operation of the journal. It is expected that they promote transparency in the editorial process, uphold academic integrity, and continuously strive to improve the quality of the journal.
Section Editors are responsible for conducting a transparent evaluation process and making fair decisions. They are also expected to promote efficiency in the evaluation process and work continuously to assist in the journal’s development.
Assistant Editors are responsible for effective communication with authors, managing the journal's processes, promoting articles on social media, and ensuring the quality control of manuscripts. Their actions play a crucial role in the visibility and reach of the published articles.
Reviewers are responsible for conducting a thorough and impartial evaluation of manuscripts, contributing to the scientific integrity and quality of the published articles. Reviewers are expected to assess the papers carefully according to methodological and ethical criteria, respect deadlines, and maintain confidentiality regarding the reviewed content.
Article 6 – General Policies for Editors and Reviewers
The various actors in the journal should be aware of and follow the general policies of the journal, as detailed below:
Editors-in-Chief
- Ensure transparency in all editorial processes, from submission to publication.
- Actively monitor compliance with best research practices, promoting academic integrity.
- Supervise the editorial flow to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Maintain respectful, courteous, and impartial conduct with all involved.
- Promote open access and rapid publication of articles in line with the principles of knowledge dissemination.
- Adopt the DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Research) principles in all journal activities.
- Gradually implement and promote Open Science policies.
- Continuously seek to expand the journal's internationalization.
Section Editors
- Make fair and balanced decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of articles.
- Identify reviewers based on DEIA principles (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Research).
- Increase internationalization in the journal's evaluation processes.
- Continuously strive for efficiency in the evaluation process.
- Collaborate actively in the continuous development and improvement of the journal.
Assistant Editors
- Communicate effectively and diligently with authors at all stages of the publication process.
- Continuously assess the standardization and final quality of articles.
- Quickly and efficiently promote articles on the journal's website and various social media platforms.
- Actively and strategically promote articles on social media to increase their impact and reach.
Reviewers
- Provide fair and impartial evaluations of articles.
- Meet evaluation deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality of the evaluation process when required.
- Refrain from writing reviews in case of any conflict of interest.
- Strive to follow the principles of Open Science by disclosing their reviews.
Article 7 – Statute Updates
The statute may be updated as necessary by SBAFS and the Editors-in-Chief.
