THEMATIC EDITION: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Physical Activity and Health

12/11/2024

The growing demand for valuing equity and diversity in the context of Public Health highlights the need to include diverse population groups and ensure that the benefits of physical activity are accessible to all. Social, cultural, economic, and gender inequalities, as well as issues related to racial identity and disability, significantly affect access to, participation in, and the benefits derived from physical activity and health promotion. This thematic session aims to explore how physical activity and health practices can be transformed to promote equity and diversity, reduce barriers, and enhance inclusion, particularly for socially vulnerable populations.

Objective of the Thematic Edition:

To gather studies that address the intersection of equity, diversity, health, and physical activity, fostering reflections on policies, interventions, and narratives aimed at greater inclusion and social justice in the promotion of physical activity and health.

Topics of Interest:

- Access to physical activity in vulnerable populations: Studies on barriers and facilitators influencing access to physical activity among vulnerable populations (older adults, individuals with disabilities, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+ communities, among others).

- Social, racial, and gender inequalities in promoting physical activity: Critical analysis of how social dynamics related to income, race, gender, and other intersectionalities affect participation in physical activities, highlighting structural disparities in opportunities and health benefits.
