Efectos del Mat Pilates online en la calidad de vida de mayores durante la pandemia del COVID-19

Resumen

Objetivo: comparar los efectos de una intervención online de Mat Pilates sobre la calidad de vida y los síntomas depresivos en mayores durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Métodos: Se trata de un ensayo clínico controlado aleatorizado en que participaron 56 mayores sanos y sedentarios, aleatorizados en dos grupos: Grupo de Entrenamiento de Mat Pilates (GMP, n=28) y Grupo Control (GC, n=28). La intervención tuvo una duración de 12 semanas, con dos sesiones semanales de 45 minutos cada una, realizadas a través de una videollamada. En la parte principal se realizó la secuencia Basic Mat Pilates con progresiones en la intensidad, volumen y complejidad de los ejercicios. El GC recibió un folleto con ejercicios no supervisado y videos semanales de educación para la salud. La calidad de vida y sus respectivos dominios se evaluaron mediante dos cuestionarios (WHOQOL-BREF y WHOQOL-OLD). Los síntomas depresivos se evaluaron mediante el cuestionario PHQ-9. Los análisis se realizaron utilizando el modelo de ecuaciones de estimación generalizadas. Resultados: No se observaron diferencias significativas en la calidad de vida general y en el dominios, medida por el WHOQOL-bref. Por otro lado, hubo una mejora en la calidad de vida para el dominio Participación Social del cuestionario WHOQOL-OLD para ambos grupos, y solo el GC observó aumentos en el dominio Autonomía. En cuanto a los síntomas depresivos, la GMP se mantuvo baja durante las 12 semanas. Conclusión: Pilates Mat Remoto logró mantener buenos niveles de calidad de vida, mejorar la participación social y prevenir la progresión de síntomas depresivos en mayores durante la pandemia del COVID-19.
