History and founding
The Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity & Health was created in 1995 when its first issue was published, at that time containing six articles. In 2025, the Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity & Health will complete 30 years, with renewed energy due to advancements and achievements, and motivated to continue overcoming the challenges imposed on carrying out technically competent editorial work and committed to the development of a multi-professional and multidisciplinary area: physical activity and health.
RBAFS is a non-profit journal and is primarily funded by the Sociedade Brasileira de Atividade Física e Saúde, which covers approximately 60% of the publication costs for each article. The additional costs for publishing articles are funded through the collection of Contributions to Publication Costs.
The creation of the Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity & Health was an initiative of the Association of Physical Education Teachers of Londrina, more specifically of faculty members from the State University of Londrina, conceived by professors Dartagnan Pinto Guedes and Abdallah Achour Junior, with the latter leading and serving as Editor-in-Chief from the journal's inception until 2007. In 2007, during the sixth edition of the Brazilian Congress of Physical Activity and Health, when the Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health was officially established, it was proposed to the Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity & Health to become an official publication of this new scientific society.
Thus, with a gesture of detachment and academic vision, the journal was transferred to the newly created Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health, which has since been funding the journal.
